Looking to steam your online library at work or anywhere with a network connection? You can do so by setting up a Subsonic server on your home computer or a remote computer. It is easy to do and I will give you a few tips on how I got mine working flawlessly.
Setup Via A Standard Windows Install:
1) Go download Subsonic at http://www.subsonic.org/pages/download.jsp
2) Setup your router to have DMZ to whatever computer has the music on it and reboot your computer. Your computer will have to be on in order to stream the music, mine is 24/7.
3) Go to http://www.no-ip.org and create an account. In this you want to create a redirect/host to any of the free domains that they supply and you want it to be a DNS HOST (A) option.
4) Download the No-Ip Duct on the no-ip.org website and install it with your credentials from which you created.
5) Install Subsonic and run the control pannel. Click the settings tab and make your port number 81 because 80 is used by default by windows for web browsing. Save your settings and stop/start your service.
6) Disable or allow port 81 through your firewall
7) Update your hosts on the no-ip duct and go to http://your_no-ip.org_redirect:81/ and it should be working.
The interface is easy to use and only took me a matter of minutes to figure it out. I have over 65GB of music that it imported and I will be streaming at work any of my music! I setup a few users that can upload or listen to music if they wished. You can checkout my library at http://blizbiggy.no-ip.org:81/music with username and password as public
If you couldnt get this working, then you either didnt get your DMZ opened correctly if you are on a router, didnt open your ports or set your port to 81, or didnt update your no-ip duc hosts.
